NEW DELHI: The controversial Triple Talaq Bill seeking to criminalize the practice of instant divorce among Muslims will be be tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Monday by PM Modi led government, even as the grand old Congress party has stated that it will not permit its passage in the current form.
Earlier The ruling BJP has issued a whip in the Upper House asking its members to be in attendance. From the side of Center Government Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will table the bill in the Upper House.
Worth mention here the bill was cleared by the Lok Sabha with 245 voting in favor and 11 opposing it - on Thursday amid a walkout by the main Opposition party Coongress.
Prasad had on Friday asserted the bill will find support in the Rajya Sabha, where the BJP-led NDA lacks the majority.
The aforesaid bill is listed in the Rajya Sabha's legislative agenda for Monday.
Meanwhile, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary KC Venugopal had stated reporters in Kochi that the party would join hands with others to put off the bill from getting passed in the House.
