Agartala: The Tripura government has imposed curfew (Weekend Curfew) over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The government has extended the existing day curfew in Agartala Municipal Corporation area and 11 other cities from July 19 to July 23. Weekend Curfew will be applicable from 6 am on July 17 to 6 am on July 19. The decision comes as the number of cases and deaths due to the Covid-19 epidemic has been on the rise in the north-eastern state in recent weeks.
Tripura has extended the day's curfew in Agartala 3 Jirania Nagar, Khowai, Kailashhar, Dharmanagar, Beloonia, Kumarghat, Teliamura, Amarpur Nagar, Panisagar Nagar and Kamalpur Nagar in the state. The day's curfew will be effective from 2 pm to 5 am. A notification issued by Chief Secretary Kumar Alok said, "The situation has been reviewed in detail and it is necessary to increase corona restrictions and curfew over the weekend in the state."
As per the notification, night curfew (6 pm to 5 am) has been extended across Tripura from July 19 to July 24. Corona curfew was first imposed on May 16 and then extended several times in these urban areas. According to an official report, Tripura's Covid-19 case load has increased to 72,365, and so far 719 people have died due to infection.
