Dr. Saha, 69, was named as the BJP legislature party's leader hours after Deb resigned. He will be sworn in as Tripura's 11th Chief Minister. The swearing-in ceremony for the Council of Ministers will take place at Raj Bhawan in Agartala on May 15 at 11:30 a.m.

Dr. Saha, the BJP's choice for Tripura's new chief minister, is a Rajya Sabha MP and the party's leader in the state, which will hold elections in March next year.  Dr. Saha, a professor of dental surgery, would be expected to lead the party to success in the assembly elections in the northeastern state, where the Trinamool Congress is also attempting to establish itself as a major factor.

After leaving the Congress in 2016, Dr. Saha joined the BJP. In 2020, he was named party chief, and in March of this year, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha.
