SUVA: Tropical storm Cody has wreaked havoc on Fiji's infrastructure, particularly on the western side of Viti Levu, the country's main island, and in some portions of the central division, resulting in power outages.

According to the source, Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) Chief Executive Hasmukh Patel warned on Tuesday that the storm has delivered persistent heavy rain and floods, causing infrastructural damage.

Some power lines are still down, according to Patel, and Fijians are encouraged to keep away from them and report them to the EFL as soon as possible to avoid accidents and fatalities.

Schools will remain closed until the National Disaster Management Office issues a clearance that it is safe to reopen, according to the Ministry of Education, because 58 schools are being used as evacuation centres and will need to be decontaminated once the weather has improved and the situation has been cleared by the Ministry of Health.

As a result of the severe rain, several areas of Labasa in Vanua Levu, Fiji's second largest island, are still submerged.
