New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has claimed in a chargesheet filed before a special court in Mumbai that no evidence has been found against Republic TV in the alleged TRP scam case. The ED, in its chargesheet filed on Wednesday ( September 21), said that the Mumbai Police's investigation in this regard was "different" from their investigation. At the same time, the investigating agency also said that they have found evidence that some regional and entertainment television channels were involved in rigging television rating points (TPPs) by paying sample or 'panel' families.

Justice MG Deshpande of the special PMLA court took cognisance of the chargesheet on Wednesday. The ED had registered an ECIR (Enforcement Case Information Report) in November 2020 in this case, which is similar to the police FIR. The ECIR was registered by the ED after the Mumbai Police registered an FIR against Republic TV, two Marathi channels and some others in connection with the alleged TRP scam.

The scam came to light when rating agency Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) filed a complaint through Hansa Research Group. The ED chargesheet states that a comprehensive conspiracy was hatched among the channel's viewers, agents and regional managers to influence/motivate panel families to watch certain prescribed channels for monetary gains.
