Meanwhile, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) Lok Sabha MP From Mehboobabad in Telangana, Maloth Kavita and his helper were convicted and sentenced to six months in jail by a local court on Saturday for bribing voters in the run up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The court, which heard cases involving MPs/MLAs, also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on him.
The judge however granted him release to file an appeal in the high court. This is the third case in recent times when a special sessions court has sentenced public representatives to jail for MP and MLA cases. However, this is the first time that a sitting Lok Sabha MP has been convicted and that too for bribing voters before the elections.

Later, during the trial, Shaukat Ali confessed that he had distributed the money at the behest of Maloth Kavita. Shaukat Ali was made the first criminal and Malloth Kavita the second criminal in the case. Both were present in the court when the judge pronounced the verdict.
