Washington DC [US], May 29 (NT): United States President Donald Trump and Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called denuclearization of North Korea as a very important and historic step.

As per a White House release statement on Monday (local time), the two leaders talked about the recent developments in North Korea as the latter implied at throw away denuclearization process due to the military drills with the United States.

"The President and Prime Minister affirmed the shared imperative of achieving the complete and permanent dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and ballistic missile programs," the release statement read.

The two countries then gave assurance to meet for a second time to work towards the US-North Korea summit.

The United States, Japan, South Korea, and China had jointly called for denuclearization of North Korea. Following that, North Korea took apart its nuclear site Pyyungg-ri.

President Trump and North Korea Superemo Kim were programmed to meet on June 12 as part of a "historic summit".

As per the reports US officials landed in North Korea after Donald Trump revealed negotiations over a potential summit with Kim Jong-un was back on track.

The President's declaration followed a surprise meeting on Saturday between the North Korean supremo Kim Jong-un and South Korean leader Moon Jae-in. (NT)
