A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Users were greeted with a message saying, "Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now.Â
Here’s a look at some of the key actions Trump may take:
IMMIGRATION
One of Trump’s main focuses will be tightening immigration enforcement. He intends to follow through on his promise to deport more undocumented immigrants. Reports suggest he may give federal officers broader authority to arrest people with no criminal records and send additional troops to the U.S.-Mexico border. Additionally, Trump is expected to declare illegal immigration a national emergency to secure military funding for the construction of the border wall. He’s also likely to end programs that allow certain migrants to enter the U.S. for humanitarian reasons.
Trump has been clear that he wants to eliminate automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented parents, though such a move could face legal challenges.
ENERGY
Trump plans to roll back several of the Biden administration’s energy policies. He may reinstate actions that weaken environmental regulations, including halting support for electric vehicles and rejoining efforts to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. He’s also expected to impose tariffs on materials for electric car batteries, hoping to boost U.S. production and reduce reliance on China.
TARIFFS
Trump may follow through on his previous threats to raise tariffs on imported goods, believing that this would benefit the U.S. economy. However, opponents argue that such tariffs could lead to higher prices for consumers.
PARDONS
On his first day, Trump is also expected to issue pardons for people involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
GENDER AFFIRMING CARE
Trump has vowed to revoke policies that support gender-affirming care, such as hormone therapy and surgeries for transgender individuals. He has criticized these policies as harmful and pledged to reverse them immediately upon taking office.
TRANSGENDER RIGHTS
In addition to rolling back gender-affirming care, Trump plans to end transgender rights in the military and in schools. He also intends to ban transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.
DIVERSITY PROGRAMS
Trump has expressed his intention to reinstate his previous executive order that limited diversity programs in the workplace. He also opposes the focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in universities.
DRUG CARTELS
Trump plans to designate drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, in an effort to combat the deadly opioid epidemic, particularly fentanyl.
FEDERAL EMPLOYEES
Trump is keen to end the work-from-home arrangements for federal employees, a practice that became widespread during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has said that federal workers who refuse to return to the office will be dismissed, hoping to reduce the size of the federal workforce.
These actions are just the beginning, as Trump’s team has prepared numerous other executive orders that could be unveiled in the coming days.
Donald Trump is also expected to make more significant changes as he takes office. First on the agenda is suspending security clearances for 51 national security officials linked to the Hunter Biden laptop controversy. He will also be terminating all Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs within the federal government, citing them as counterproductive to American values. Furthermore, Trump plans to take actions to clearly define biological sex and rename certain historical locations, such as the "Gulf of America."
