Hyderabad: TSRTC will also start home pick-up and delivery of parcels, said Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar in the Assembly on Thursday. Under which TSRTC is set to enter into an agreement with the cargo and parcel service e-commerce giant Amazon. This will help in better utilization of cargo services of TSRTC and generate good revenue apart from earning from passenger services. According to the minister, talks on tie-up with Amazon are in the final stages.

Presently parcel services are being provided by TSRTC in 177 bus stations. The corporation had started cargo and parcel services in June 2020 and the new unit of RTC has earned Rs 62.02 crore so far. Cold storage is used for bulk goods. 50 more vehicles are proposed to be added for the services. Ajay Kumar said, “This year we have set a target of Rs 75 crore to Rs 100 crore and we are confident that we will achieve the target.

The minister said that before the pandemic, the corporation used to earn Rs 15 crore per day, but after the pandemic there has been a huge drop in revenue. The corporation has also suffered due to rising diesel prices. There are 97 depots including 29 in the city and almost all the depots are running in loss. However, he ruled out the possibility of closure of any depots or privatization of services.
