TTFI recommends CWG 2018 winners Manika Batra, Harmeet Desai for Arjuna Award

NEW DELHI: The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) on Friday recommended Manika Batra, the country's only quadruple medalist and Harmeet Desai who clinched the gold medal for men's team ,  at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018, for the high-status Arjuna Award.

"We sent her nomination today. With such a strong performance in Gold Coast, it will be very difficult for the (government) committee to ignore her," a TTFI representative was quoted as saying by PTI.

  Worth mention here Batra scripted a golden-history in Gold Coast, Australia as she delivered maiden team gold to India before winning singles gold.

The 22-year-old, Batra defeated world number four and triple Olympic medalist, Feng Tianwei of Singapore, twice in the tournament.

She also settled women’s doubles silver alongside Mouma Das and mixed doubles bronze with G Sathiyan.

Her upcoming assignment is the World Team Championships 2018 in Sweden from April 29.

India grabbed the third spot in the CWG 2018 medals tally with 26 Gold, 20 Silver and 20 Bronze medals. This year's sum of 66 medals is the third highest haul for India in the olden times of the CWG.

Host Australia and England were the two nations which remained to the lead of India at first and second positions respectively.
