New Delhi: A tunnel-like structure has been explored in the Delhi Assembly on Thursday. Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel said the tunnel connects the assembly to the Red Fort. He said Britishers used it to move freedom fighters from one place to another.

Goyal also said that when I became an MLA in 1993, I used to hear things that there is a tunnel that goes up to the Red Fort. I also tried to find out the tunnel to know history, but nothing was ever clear about it. Now we have got the entrance to this tunnel, but we are not digging it further. The road ahead of the tunnel is likely to have been terminated in installing metro projects and sewers.

Goyal also said that when the country's capital was brought to Delhi from Kolkata, the Delhi Assembly was used as a central assembly. It was converted into a court in 1926 and through this tunnel, the British used to bring freedom fighters to court. We all knew that there was a room where the execution was carried out, but it was never opened. Now, on the 75th anniversary of Independence, I inspected that room. We are thinking of turning it into a pilgrimage center for fighters.
