Turkey Earthquake victims; Indian Army field hospital treats over 3,600

NEW DELHI: The Indian Army's field hospital extended medical treatment to more than 3,600 earthquake victims in Turkey.

The Indian disaster relief team, comprising about 100 personnel of the hospital and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), provided medical relief to the victims in Hatya province -- one of the worst-hit regions of the country.

Meanwhiile, again new 6.4 magnitude earthquake on Monday killed 3 people and injured over 200 in parts of Turkey that were laid waste two weeks ago by a massive quake that killed tens of thousands. Officials said more buildings collapsed, trapping occupants, and several people were injured in both Turkey and Syria.

The Ministry of Defence said earlier  that the team's effort has been praised both at the national and international levels.

The field hospital attended to 3,604 victims in total, provided emergency care, and carried out 870 POP applications for the treatment of fractures in addition to 40 major surgeries, 630 minor surgeries, and 343 minor treatments.
On February 8, barely two days after huge earthquakes shook neighbouring Syria and Turkey, the hospital opened a branch in Iskenderun, Hatay province.

According to a representative of the Defense Ministry, the hospital had a fully working operating room and trauma centre.

The team for providing medical aid to earthquake victims comprised doctors, surgeons, anaesthetists, orthopaedicians, maxillofacial surgeons, and community medicine specialists.

In addition to this, a female medical official was also sent in to provide medical attention to female victims.
The field hospital, according to the Defence Ministry, also performed 283 preventative X-rays while providing dental care to 242 patients.

In the cases that were reported for treatment, a total of 1,159 laboratory tests were performed.

The Indian Army replenished the field hospital with medical and surgical bricks, as well as orthopaedic supplies.
According to the official, the team had also set up a donation booth to accept donations and distribute them to the less fortunate.
