Kabul: After the Taliban's occupation of Afghanistan, micro-blogging platform Twitter has also closed all accounts related to Afghanistan acting President Amrullah Saleh on August 19, 2021. @Afghanpresident and the handle @AfgGreenTrend of his party Afghanistan Green Trend (AGT) have been suspended by Twitter.

In fact, Saleh is said to be still mobilizing the army to counter the Taliban. Saleh is currently in Panjshir province, which is yet to be captured by the Taliban. Significantly, while Twitter has suspended Saleh-related accounts, the Taliban spokesman's accounts are still active on the platform. It may be recalled that several Taliban leaders have accounts on Twitter. Taliban spokesman Zabeehullah Mujahid is actively updating his Twitter handle with the latest inputs. He has more than 3,00,000 followers on Twitter. Another spokesman, Suhail Shaheen, also has more than 3,00,000 followers, while Kari Yusuf Ahmadi has 60,000 followers on his Twitter.

While Facebook and YouTube have started banning accounts related to the Taliban and its followers, Twitter has categorically refused to take such action against the terror group. The company has said it is constantly monitoring Taliban accounts and if they "cross the border," action will be taken against the jihadist group.
