New Delhi: Twitter and the Central government have been at loggerheads for a long time over the new IT rules, though the Central government has now said in the Delhi High Court that Twitter is following the new IT rules and has appointed a chief compliance officer, resident complaint officer, and nodal liaison officer under the new rule. Following the central government's statement, the court has sought an affidavit on which the Central government has sought some respite. The matter will now come up for hearing in the Supreme Court on October 5.

In the court, Twitter said that all the officials appointed under the new IT rules will report directly to Twitter's headquarters in the US. Just last week, Twitter made permanent appointments to these posts, which are mandatory under the new rules. Vinay Prakash has been made the Chief Compliance and Complaints Officer while Shaheen Komath has been appointed as the Nodal Liaison Officer. Tell us that Shaheen Komath was earlier in the post of Bitedance Executive Officer.

Earlier, in its affidavit in the court, the Central Government had said that Twitter has failed to follow the new IT rules of the country. In fact, Twitter had made interim appointments to these posts and told the court that the appointments were made through third-party contractors.
