Twitter’s Raid on fake accounts claimed 2.8 Lakhs followers from PM Modi

Twitter, the micro-blogging online platform is a great medium to convey messages and present your thoughts. On the other hand, it plays equally to put someone in controversies and trolling some at the more than the expected level. On Friday, in an effort to “build trust and encourage healthy conversation” on the platform the firm has taken a move which reflects many honorary or even a common people all over the world.

Twitter has removed the “locked accounts” on its platform due to which not only the users’ count drop but simultaneously have brought down the followers count of the many people. The decision caused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi a lot as they lost 2, 84,746 followers and 17,503 followers respectively. Now, PM Modi remains with 43.1 million followers and Rahul Gandhi with 7.22 million.

Other political faces that lost a large number of followers have also the name of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor with the loss of 1, 51,509 followers. 74,132 and 41,280 is the loss incurred by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani respectively.

On removing the several suspicious and inactive accounts the company’s blog reads: “As part of our ongoing and global effort to build trust and encourage healthy conversation on Twitter, every part of the service matters,”

They also informed about the loss as “This week, we'll be removing these locked accounts from follower counts across profiles globally. As a result, the number of followers displayed on many profiles may go down.”
