According to a legal filing, Twitter, which is owned by billionaire Elon Musk, is looking for information on the person or people who leaked some of its source code.

The filing claims that a user going by the name of "FreeSpeechEnthusiast" posted "various expects" of the source code used to power Twitter's online operations on Github, a platform owned by Microsoft.

According to Github, the code was removed on Friday at Twitter's request.

According to the March 24 filing, Twitter has asked the US District Court for the Northern District of California to order Github to turn over "All identifying information" connected to the user name "FreeSpeechEnthusiast."

When Reuters asked Github for comment on whether it had provided such information, Github did not immediately respond. It also made no mention of how long Twitter's source code had been accessible to the general public.

A request for comment from Twitter also received no immediate response. The New York Times was the first to break the news.
