Delhi HC says Twitter - Appointment of local officials to take 8 weeks

New Delhi: A new update has surfaced today on the ongoing dispute between the Central government and Twitter over the new IT rules. Twitter has filed an affidavit in the Delhi High Court on the new IT rules, in which the company says it could take eight weeks to appoint a Resident grievance redressal officer in India.

Twitter has informed us that the company is in the process of setting up an office in India, which will work to reconcile the issue. All work will be done under the new IT rules in India from the same office. Twitter has told the high court that the first compliance report will be submitted by July 11 under the new IT rules. Twitter has informed that an Interim Chief Compliance Officer has been appointed in India. This has been communicated to the Ministry of Electronics and IT.

Moreover, job posts have also been taken out by Twitter for chief compliance officers, applications for the same are also coming in continuously. Twitter has also given its address to the High Court, The Permanent Address of Twitter in India has been given in Bengaluru.  State that a petition was filed in the Delhi High Court on the issue of new IT rules. During the hearing, the High Court had questioned how long Twitter was taken to appoint an officer.
