Two civilians died in suspicious firing, angry people pelted stones at Army

Srinagar: Two civilians lost their lives and another person was injured in a firing incident outside an army camp in the Rajouri district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday (December 16) morning. Military officials blamed unidentified terrorists for the firing and civilian casualties. However, officials had earlier said that an army sentry allegedly opened fire, resulting in casualties. Soon after the incident, local people took to the streets and pelted stones at the army camp in protest against the killings outside the Alpha Gate.

Angry locals blocked the Jammu-Poonch National Highway and demanded an inquiry into the incident. Senior military and police officials had reached the spot to pacify the angry locals and the matter is under investigation. He said the incident took place around 6.15 am when a group of locals was on their way to work near the Alpha Gate of the army camp. The officials have identified the deceased as Kamal Kumar and Surinder Kumar. Both were residents of Rajouri and the injured Anil Kumar, a resident of Uttarakhand, is undergoing treatment at the army hospital. The White Knight Corps of the Army tweeted from its official Twitter handle that two people died in the firing incident of unknown terrorists in Rajouri near the Military Hospital in the morning. Police, security forces, and civil administration officials are deployed at the spot. The official said the situation in the city was tense but under control.

Let us tell you that the local protesters have demanded strict action in this matter and demanded compensation for the family. The reasons for the firing are yet to be ascertained. Following the deaths, SHO Rajouri Inspector Fareed Ahmed said there were protests by locals and some people pelted stones and also blocked the Jammu-Poonch highway. An army officer said, 'Both the youths who died were working as coolies with the army. The condition of the injured civilian is stable and he has been admitted to the hospital.'
