Imphal: Two MLA from Manipur have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. The BJP has since expressed confidence that it will win two-thirds of the seats in the upcoming assembly elections in the state. Rajkumar Imo Singh and Congress MLA Yamthong Haokip, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Manipur party in-charge Sambit Patra joined the BJP.

Imo Singh was elected on a Congress ticket, but he was expelled from the party for alleged anti-party activities. He told the press that PM Narendra Modi has done a lot for the prosperity, peace and stability of the country. Manipur was known for its law and order problem, regular blockade and division of the hill in its valley in 2017, but that is no longer the case. His father Rajkumar Jayachandra Singh was the CM of Manipur and the first Union minister of the state.

Sonowal welcomed him to the party and stressed that the north-eastern region has established its identity in the Modi government. This has ensured that Union ministers and bureaucrats are regularly visiting the region to address issues coming up.  Sambit Patra said the BJP is proud of these eminent personalities from the state coming to the party. The party expressed confidence that BJP will win two-thirds of the seats in this election. Tell us that the BJP came to power in Manipur for the first time in 2017.
