Two-day session of Gujarat legislative assembly begins today

Ahmedabad: The two-day monsoon session of the Gujarat Assembly has begun today. This will be the first session of the Assembly after the swearing-in of the Bhupendra Patel government. The previous Speaker of the House, Rajendra Trivedi, has been inducted into the Cabinet as the most senior minister in the Bhupendra Patel government along with the departments of revenue, disaster management, law and justice legislative parliamentary affairs.

For the first time, the First Woman Speaker has been appointed as Nimaben Acharya in the House. The deputy speaker's election will also be held on Monday, with the opposition Congress nominating its six-time MLA Anil Joshiyara for the post, while the ruling BJP has extended the name of Jetha Bharwad, MLA Shehra. The decision to convene the two-day session was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by the previous Vijay Rupani.

The BJP government led by CM Bhupendra Patel is likely to introduce four new bills on Monday, including the Gujarat Private Universities (Second Amendment) Act, the Gujarat Goods and Services Tax Amendment Act, 2021, the Skill University Bill, the Indian Partnership Gujarat Amendment Act, 2021.
