Kolkata: West Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced that she will contest from Nandigram in East Midnapore. Earlier, there were speculations that TMC supremo and CM Mamata Banerjee could contest from more than one seat. But while releasing the list of candidates, she put a stop to these speculations and announced that she will take the field from Nandigram.

TMC has nominated its partner Sowan Deb Chattopadhyay from Mamata Banerjee's traditional seat Bhawanipur. A senior leader of Midnapore Shubhendu Adhikari, who was in the Trinamool Congress for a long time, recently left the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Only after this, Mamta had announced that she would fill the nomination from Nandigram of Midnapore in the Bengal assembly elections.

However, even before Mamata's official announcement to contest from Nandigram, local party leaders were looking for a new home for her in Midnapore. Party leaders have rented a bedroom and two kitchen apartments on rent in Reyapara, Nandigram. Elections are going to be held in Bengal in 8 phases, the first phase of which is going to start from 27th March.
