RAJAHMUNDRY: In Kakinada and East Godavari districts, during Makar Sankranti celebrations, two people were killed after suffering injuries during cockfights.
The two people have been identified as twenty-year-old Padma Rao and Gande Suresh (43). The incidents were reported during the cockfights being organised as part of Sankranthi celebrations despite a blanket ban on the event.
In the first occurrence, a 43-year-old man was watching a cockfight in Velanka when a rooster jumped at him from behind, inflicting damage.
The victim's leg's calf has been injured by the knife that was attached to the rooster. With this, the main calf nerve was severed, and excessive bleeding resulted in harm. He died while receiving treatment for severe bleeding.
Gande Suryaprakasaa Rao, the victim, is a 43-year-old resident of Velanka Village in Kirlampudi Mandal, Kakinada District.
A person was killed in a similar occurrence that happened in Ananthapalli village, Nallajerla mandal, East Godavari district, as a result of the wound made by the knife that was attached to a rooster.
The 20-year-old Pirigani Padma Raju was getting a rooster ready for a cockfight. Meanwhile, a rooster's leg-mounted knife cut the calf nerve and over-bleeding resulted in significant harm.
He succumbed to overbreeding and died.
