‘Two Leaves’ symbol gets unified approval for AIADMK

Chennai: The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday alloted the AIADMK's "two leaves" symbol to the Panneerselvam-Palaniswami combine, holding that it enjoyed majority in the party's legislative and organisational wings.

The AIADMK Presidium Chairman Tamilmagan Hussain was also given permission by the ECI to sign forms A and B and to authorise candidates to run for office on behalf of the AIADMK under the two-leaf emblem.

Tamilmagan Hussain expressed optimism that the AIADMK will win the seat and claimed that this was the first step towards winning the Erode East bye-elections. However, Tamil Magan Hussain flatly refused to respond to any queries on the likely course of the case's future legal action.

The AIADMK party General Council was previously required by the Supreme Court to adopt a resolution naming a candidate to represent the party in the impending byelections for the Erode (East) constituency in Tamil Nadu.
Following this, AIADMK General Council members received affidavit papers from AIADMK Presidium Chairman Tamilmagan Hussain.

The O Pannerselvam (OPS) faction expressed disapproval of this, labelling the conduct as biassed. Senthil Murugan, a candidate for the OPS faction, also dropped out of the Erode east by-election.

The faction stated that they don't want to be the cause of the "two leaves" sign being frozen. They did, however, aver that they would support the emblem but not the candidate in their campaign.

However, the solution can only be described as temporary because the Supreme Court explicitly stated that the ruling only applied to the next bye-elections. Thennarasu, a contender for the AIADMK in the Erode East byelection, will submit his candidature today as it is the last day to do so.

Ahead of the approaching byelections in Erode East, the Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) faction of the AIADMK distributed ballots earlier on Saturday to solicit support for its candidate, former MLA Thiru KS Thennarasu.

This comes after the Supreme Court ordered the AIADMK party General Council to adopt a resolution about the party's nominee for the impending byelections in the Tamil Nadu constituency of Erode (East).
