Islamabad: The case of the demolition of the statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Lahore, Pakistan, has come to light. According to reports, two persons have dismantled the statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. In June this year, a 9-foot-high statue of Maharaja was installed at Lahore Fort. Ranjit Singh, the ruler of the Sikh Empire, ruled Punjab, including Jammu and Kashmir, in the early 19th century.

However, after the case came to light, the Pakistan police have arrested the culprits and both have been booked under the blasphemy law. Both the youths were agitated when the Indian side abolished Section 370 of the Constitution giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Both the accused are associated with the Tehreek-e-Lubbback, an organisation of Maulana Khaim Rizvi.

The Lahore Fort management authority, astonishing over the incident, will repair the statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh after Eid. Till then, the premises have been closed to the general public. Tourists will be allowed to visit only after the statue is repaired.
