Washington: Two senior officials of a nuclear-powered submarine that was damaged after colliding with something underwater in the South China Sea last month have been sacked by the US Navy. In addition, the Executive Officer and senior advisor to the Commander have also been removed from his post.

The investigation was conducted by Vice Admiral Carl Thomas, commander of the US 'Seventh Fleet' based in Japan. The Seventh Fleet has said that Thomas says the incident could have been prevented by taking a decision in discretion and following the necessary procedures between navigation planning, performance of the monitoring team and risk management. It has also been said that Thomas has discharged Commander Cameron Aljilani as commanding officer, Lt. Commander Patrick Cashin as executive officer and Master Chief Sonar Technician Corey Rajers as ship head.

According to the information received, the ship has been listed as chief executive officer and senior advisor to the commander. The Navy has not yet publicly stated how USA Connecticut hit a underwater cliff and caused such a percentage loss to the vessel.
