New Delhi: Three smugglers with banned 127 kg red sandalwood have been arrested by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at IGI Airport. 127 kg of red sandalwood has been recovered from their possession. All the smugglers were on the run to Hong Kong. The accused have been identified as Deepak Singh, Shekhar Sharma, and Jitendra Ahlawat. All three have been handed over to the Caste Department.

Giving information, CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh said that on 28 December, the personnel of the CISF surveillance team deployed at IGI Airport found the gesture of two passengers going abroad for a visit suspicious. He also had two trolley bags with him. Both the passengers have searched along with the bags on the basis of suspicion. Nothing suspicious was found from the passengers. But a search by X-ray machine revealed that the bag contained red sandalwood. The sandalwood was hidden in the bag with polyethylene. The import and export of this wood is prohibited in India.

After which both were arrested. During interrogation, it was found that Deepak Singh and Shekhar Sharma were Indians and they had tickets for Hong Kong on Air India flight. During interrogation, he said that another of his companions had sandalwood. He has checked the bag filled with red sandalwood at Shivaji metro station, after which the police have started investigating that third person.
