Srinagar: On Saturday, August 10, 2024, two soldiers were martyred in an ongoing encounter between security forces and terrorists in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir. The clash, which occurred in the Ahlan area of Gagarmandu forest in Kokernag, also left three individuals injured, including a soldier. The injured have been rushed to the hospital, while security forces have sealed off the area and are conducting a search operation.

The encounter began when terrorists, hiding in the forest, opened fire on the security forces during a cordon and search operation based on specific intelligence. The army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF launched a joint operation in response. Following the initial confrontation, the terrorists retreated into the dense forest, prompting an extensive search operation by the security forces.

The Indian Army's Chinar Corps reported on X that the operation is still ongoing. The terrorists are believed to be affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed and may have entered the area from Doda. The security forces are also investigating potential helpers of the terrorists.

In related developments, the Kathua police have released sketches of four terrorists who were last seen in Malhar, Bani, and Dhok areas of Siozdhar. A reward of Rs 5 lakh has been announced for any actionable information leading to their capture. This action is part of Operation All Out, aimed at curbing terrorist activities in the region. This recent encounter follows a deadly attack on an army patrol in Kathua district on July 8, which resulted in the death of five soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer.
