Srinagar: On Saturday, a blast was reported in a car in Banihal in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district. The mysterious blast has happened in a Santro car on the Srinagar-Jammu highway near Banihal which is across the Jawahar tunnel. As per reports, a convoy of CRPF personnel was passing by the area when the blast took place. The driver of the lone car has fled from the scene. The explosion is believed to be a cylinder blast. No casualties have been reported so far.Barely two weeks after Pulwama attack, an explosion occurred near a convoy of the 54th Battalion of CRPF in a private vehicle in Jammu & Kashmir Saturday. The driver of the car escaped unhurt after the blast. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far. The blast occurred in the car as the convoy was nearby on the Banihal highway in Ramban district of Jammu & Kashmir. A bus in the convoy with CRPF personnel onboard sustained minor damages.

The incident comes as a surprise as it was decided that no private vehicles will be allowed near the convoy of the security forces when it transverses across the state of Jammu & Kashmir. It is not clear as of now if it is a terrorist attack or accident but security experts call it yet another security lapse in the troubled northern state.

Here it is to be noted that Banihal Police said that the accident happened after the cylinders kept in the car leaked and then caught fire. The investigation is underway. CRPF sources, meanwhile, said that the prima facie blast in the car seems to be a cylinder explosion. The CRPF convoy was at a significant distance from the explosion site. The incident does not appear to be an attack, CRPF sources added. The incident comes just a month after the ghastly Pulwama terror attack that claimed lives of 40 CRPF personnel. The paramilitary men were killed after an explosive-laden truck rammed into their convoy on February 14. The terror attack was claimed by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
