Two women Army officers have been selected to practice as helicopter pilots at Combat Army Aviation Training School, Nashik (Maharashtra). Till now, women officers in the Army Aviation Corps were entrusted with only ground work. Fifteen women officers had voluntarily expressed their desire to join the Army aviation. However, only two women officers were selected after strict selection process for inclusion of Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) and Medical.

On successful completion of the exercise in Nashik, the selected women will be on flight duty by July 2022. This has once again raised the name of women empowerment. Officials familiar with the development said on Tuesday that two women Army officers have been selected for the first time to train as helicopter pilots at the force's premier combat army aviation training school in Nashik, Maharashtra.

Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Narwane had last month allowed a proposal to allow women officers to select the aviation wing of the Army. Thereafter, two women have now been selected for the same. Women officers in the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy will be seen flying helicopters. An official said a total of 15 women had expressed their desire to join Army Aviation. Two of them have been selected, which is a matter of pride for the country.
