Islamabad: Two women who have been polio vaccines in Pakistan have been shot dead by fundamentalists. While 28-year-old Shakeela Biwi died on the spot, 30-year-old Ghuncha Gul, who was seriously injured by the bullet, later died in hospital. According to the news agency Effe, the women were going to the hospital to collect vaccine kits, when the bike-raiders attacked them.

Police have said that she used to give polio medicine to children in Parmoli town in Swab district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. According to local police, security personnel were not provided with polio vaccine providers here as the area was not located in highly sensitive places. Parmoli station chief Jihad Khan has told Afe that, "After doing duty, the two women were going on a walk to collect their kits that two unidentified gunmen on a bike fired at them from behind. The attackers managed to escape from the spot," he said.

Giving information about the case, the police officer has told that Gul was initially taken to Kalu Khan Hospital in Swab, after which he was referred to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, where he died.
