ADEN: A roadside bomb struck a military pick-up truck in Yemen's southern oil-rich region of Shabwa, killing two troops and injuring four others, according to a government official.

According to a local government source who spoke on the condition of anonymity to Xinhua media,  the explosion occurred on Tuesday while a military vehicle carrying soldiers was moving down a road in the western section of Shabwa. He said,  two troops were killed on the spot, while the injured were taken to a local hospital and the truck was partially damaged by the explosion.

According to the reports, no group has claimed credit for the attack so far. Many high-profile attacks on security forces in Yemen's southern provinces have been carried out by the Yemen-based al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) network.

Years of deadly struggle between the Yemeni government and the Houthi militia have allowed the AQAP to extend its footprint in the war-torn Arab country.
