LOS ANGELES: The World War II epic "Six Triple Eight" on Netflix, which follows the actions of the only all-Black, all-female regiment, will be written and directed by Tyler Perry.

In addition to directing, Perry is also rewriting the script from an article by Kevin M. Hymel about the 6888th battalion that was featured in the Sovereign Media publication WWII History Magazine.

"Variety" reports that "Six Triple Eight" is based on the true story of the 855 women who volunteered for the war effort without being aware of the Herculean task of clearing out the three-year backlog of undeliverable mail.

Despite discrimination, a foreign environment, and a war-torn nation, they persisted and managed to sort over 17 million pieces of mail in a record amount of time. Through their efforts, American soldiers were able to get in touch with their loved ones and families back home.

The mantra that kept them going every day was one they coined themselves: "No Mail, Low Morale," according to a press release from Netflix. Not only were the women of the 6888 distributing mail, they were also delivering hope.

There wasn't much information available about the 6888th Postal Directory Battalion until recently. But on March 14, 2022, President Joe Biden approved the legislation granting the women the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honour bestowed by Congress.

In August, Perry gave Variety a first peek at the film, teasing that it would include "some fantastic folks that were forgotten for years." Perry, Nicole Avant of Her Excellency Productions, Keri Selig of Intuition Productions, Carlota Espinosa of Tyler Perry Studios, Angi Bones, and Tony Strickland are among the producers. Executive producer is Peter Guber of Mandalay Pictures.
