Indian women's soccer team's goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan said on Friday that hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup in February-March next year will not only promote the sport in the country but will also help bring awareness about women's football. India will host the FIFA Under-19 Women's World in February-March next year.
Aditi said during the Instagram live chat on AIFF TV, "We need that parents are more vigilant about what you can achieve in sports, especially football. This (U-17 Women's World Cup) will address a lot of people's concerns. We will not only get players who will represent the country in the 2022 Asian Games but it will also open the eyes of parents who think twice before sending their daughters to the games. So, bring awareness to the country "The World Cup will go a long way."
Aditi said that she still gets such messages from young footballers that some parents do not want to send their children to sports. The goalkeeper said, "I still get messages from young footballers, in which they say that parents don't support playing football. There is still that stigma. Parents think about what will happen by playing football."
