Abu Dhabi: Hours after Israel opened its embassy in Abu Dhabi, The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday granted approval to the establishment of an embassy in Tel Aviv in Israel. 

A Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum took the decision to set up the embassy in the city of Tel Aviv. The UAE government confirmed the decision on Twitter saying, "The government approves the creation of the embassy of the United Arab Emirates to Tel Aviv, in the state of Israel." The development has come nearly four months after the UAE, along with Bahrain, signed a US-brokered deal to normalise relations with Israel. Some experts suggest the opening of embassies in both the UAE and Israel has come in view of shared fears for Iran.
Israel and the UAE have already signed treaties on direct flights and visa-free travel, along with accords on investment protection, science and technology. They have also signed bilateral agreements in various sectors, including tourism, security, telecommunications and healthcare. The establishment of missions is expected to further expand ties between the two governments, their financial bodies, private sectors, universities, the media and more.
