Uganda: In early July, a Muslim mob reportedly killed a Christian in Uganda by attacking him with stones and sticks. The victim has been identified as Robert Bwenje and the two assailants have been recognised as Ashirafu Kasamba and Kabagambe Kadiri. The Islamists had attacked Bwenje and a pastor who was with him. The mob had also burned the copies of Bible, a report read.

The event is said to have occurred on July 6 while Robert Bwenje was accompanied with Assistant Pastor Ambrose Mugisha of Elim Pentecostal Church to a "open-air discussion" in Nyamiringa village, Kapeke Sub-County, Kiboga District. In the Sirimula village of the Kyankwanzi District, there was a discussion comparing Islam and Christianity.

Eight Muslims, including two women, are said to have been persuaded to leave Islam and adopt Christianity during the debate after being persuaded by the missionaries' arguments. According to assistant pastor Ambrose Mugisha, the episode incensed the local Islamists, who wanted to disrupt the celebration but were unable to do so since police security was given for it.

A Muslim crowd attacked the two as they crossed a marsh on their way back from the "discussion" at the conversion camp, emerging from the bushes. According to reports, the mob thrashed the victims while shouting "Allah Akbar, Allah Akbar" and using sticks and other dangerous weapons. Pastor Mugisha later told the media, "They removed the Quran and then torched the remainder of the literature, including the Bibles, and then beat us with sticks.

He continued by saying that he could only place one attacker-- Ashirafu Kasamba -- as the one who struck him on the head. Then, he said, "I then jumped into the water and managed to swim and cross to the other side." The Islamists thrashed Bwenje in the middle of the marsh for a while before running away, leaving him bleeding in the water. After some time, a by stander recognised the wounded as a Christian and sent them to the hospital, where Bwenje passed away from his wounds.

Bwenje was 28 years old and died on July 10 at about 11 p.m., according to Pastor Godfrey Ssemujju of Elim Pentecostal Church, who visited the pair at the hospital. One of the accused Kasambas has been taken into custody after the Police reported the incident. He has been accused of attempting to murder someone.
