New Delhi: The Supreme Court has extended the hearing on Friday till August 10 in connection with the University Grants Commission (UGC) to conduct final year examinations in universities and colleges across the country by 30 September. Now UGC has said that no one should be under the impression that this case is under consideration in the apex court, that is why the court has stopped the examination. Students should keep preparing for their studies.
In the hearing today, lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that many universities do not have the necessary facilities for online examination. On this, the top court said that offline also has an option. Then the lawyer said that but a lot of people will not be able to take the offline examination due to local conditions or illness. The court then said that giving them the option to take the test later would lead to further confusion. But this is visible in the interest of students. Apart from this, the apex court has asked to keep on record a copy of the decision taken by the State Disaster Management Committee in Maharashtra.
Earlier, the UGC had filed its reply in the top court on Thursday. In which it was said that the purpose of conducting the final year examinations by September 30 is to manage the future of the students so that there is no delay in starting the students next year. The top court had asked the UGC to respond to the petitions challenging the final year examinations in universities across the country.
