New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday (May 9, 2022) has summoned a report from Sharda University about the "objectionable" question asked on the similarity between Hindutva and fascism in an examination. According to a media report, the higher education regulator has asked the Greater Noida-based private university to explain in a detailed action taken report what steps it has taken to ensure that such incidents do not take place in the future.

In a letter to Sharda University, the UGC said, "It has been observed that the students objected to the question and lodged a complaint with the university. Needless to say, asking students such a question is against the spirit and ethos of our country, which is known for inclusivity and uniformity and therefore, these kinds of questions should not be asked.'' In the question paper for BA First Year Political Science (Hons) students were questioned about "Hindutva-Fascism." The seven-digit question asked, "Do you find any similarity between fascism/Nazism and Hindutva? Expand with arguments.''

Let us know that this controversial question paper had become controversial after it went viral on social media platforms. The university had then constituted a three-member committee to look into the possibility of bias in the questions. In a statement issued on Saturday (May 7, 2022), the university said the committee had found the question objectionable in the investigation. After that, a show-cause notice was also sent to an assistant professor named Waqas Farooq Kutte, who had prepared the question. The Committee in its preliminary enquiry has also found that the said question was objectionable. At the same time, it was also decided that this question will be ignored at the time of copy checking and marking and it will not have any effect on the marks.

What is the dispute?
Let us know that the whole controversy had arisen when BJP leader Vikas Pritam Sinha tweeted a photocopy of it and termed a question asked in it as objectionable. This question paper was for the year 2021-2022 session of Political Science of BA. According to Vikas Pritam, the paper has reportedly been prepared by a Muslim teacher.
