UGC issues fresh ultimatum to begin admission process

New Delhi: Accreditation of 350 universities of the country may be cancelled. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked these universities to join NAC Accreditation soon. The government cautioned that accreditation would be terminated if universities and colleges did not have National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAC) accreditation after 2022. The Central Government has made NAC Accreditation mandatory to all universities and colleges with a view to increasing the quality of higher education and improving the international ranking.

The Center has also selected 167 institutes for mentor institute to link all higher education institutions with NAC Accreditation. More than 350 universities and colleges are not yet associated with NAC Accreditation. The UGC has shared the list of selected 167 mentor institute institutes from all universities.

For this purpose, Mentor Institutions can help their subordinate institutions to move forward on the lines of caretakers. It also includes institutes of Haryana, UP, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh in the list of Mentor Institute. The quality of higher educational institutions is also tested by having accreditation. Because the NAC team examines other basic facilities including teacher, qualified teacher, research under student-teacher ratio with quality during the investigation. Due to this, the institutions are bound to increase their quality.
