London: Boris Johnson came out fighting in the House of Commons as his future as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom hung in the balance following an investigation by a senior civil servant, Sue Grey, into partying at his office-cum-residence at 10 Downing Street in London, in flagrant violation of Covid-19 laws at the epicentre of political power in the United Kingdom.

In reaction to Labour Party and Opposition Leader Sir Keir Starmer accused him of ignoring the findings and labelling him a "man without shame," he called it "a tissue of nonsense."

Johnson hid behind a police investigation that was launched as a result of the information uncovered by Grey.

Johnson's immediate predecessor and Conservative party colleague Theresa May, whose exit he is reported to have orchestrated, sarcastically questioned him whether he hadn't read, didn't understand, or thought he was free from the Covid restrictions. May is seen as someone who could orchestrate Johnson's demise from the shadows. If 54 Conservative MPs request a leadership election, it will be held automatically.

A leadership election could allow Rishi Sunak, the current Chancellor of the Exchequer, to enter the race.
