Ukraine carries out latest prisoner swap with Russia

KIEV: Ukraine's latest prisoner exchange with Russia resulted in the return of 45 persons, including five injured servicemen,  Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk announced on Thursday

The Minister stated that 45 people including 13 officers, 20 soldiers, and 12 civilians in a Facebook post on Thursday. Notably, on April 19, Ukrainian authorities rescued 76 persons, 60 of them were members of the Armed Forces and the remainder of whom were civilians.

According to Ukrayinska Pravda, Ukraine held a 30-for-30 prisoner-of-war exchange on April 14 and a "86-for-86" swap on April first,  15 of whom were women.  On March 24, Ukrainian officials completed a 10-for-10 prisoner exchange.

Earlier this month, Ukrainian authorities swapped nine Russian conscripts for Melitopol mayor Ivan Fedorov, who was kidnapped on March 11.  It is also known that swaps have taken place as a result of military leadership decisions.

On March 1, a Russian officer seized in the Sumy region was exchanged for five Territorial Defence Forces fighters, signalling the start of the war. The military command of the Kherson region exchanged five Ukrainian soldiers for four captured Russian forces on April 15.
