KIEV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sent the European Commission's chief Ursula von der Leyen the second part of the questionnaire for the war-torn country's candidate status for EU membership.

According to a social media post by Zelesnky's press service, the paper was handed over during an online meeting between Ukraine's and the EU's leaders on Monday. During the meeting, Zelensky thanked von der Leyen for sending Ukraine "strong messages of support" on its way to EU membership.

On February 28, he wrote an official letter to the Europeon Union requesting that Ukraine be included under a new special procedure. During her April visit to Kiev, European Commission President handed Zelensky a questionnaire. The EU received the first section of the paper on April 18.

According to Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the first part of the questionnaire focuses on political and economic issues, while the second section includes questions aimed at determining whether Ukrainian legislation complies with EU regulations.
