KIEV, Ukraine: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted a bill to Parliament to extend martial law across the country, according to a statement from the Parliament press service.

According to The Kyiv Independent, the martial law will be extended for two months, until June 24, provided parliament pass the bill tabled on Tuesday. After Russia launched a special military campaign against Ukraine on February 24, Kiev declared martial law.

The Ukrainian Parliament voted on March 15 to extend martial law until April 25. As Russia's military assault on Kyiv continues, the government had first tabled a draught bill in Parliament calling for the country's martial law to be extended for another 30 days.

After Russia launched its armed invasion of Ukraine in February, Zelenskyy declared martial law for the first time in March. The President had proclaimed in a televised address to the nation that all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 60 would not be permitted to leave Ukraine as the country initiated a mass mobilisation of all reserve forces.
