Ukraine is gearing up to welcome its inaugural fleet of F-16 fighter jets from its Western allies by June-July, as revealed by a senior Ukrainian military official on Friday.

For over two years, Ukraine has been actively seeking US-manufactured F-16 fighter jets to bolster its defense against Russia's aerial dominance. The official did not disclose the specific country providing the aircraft.

According to reports from the State media, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and Belgium have pledged to dispatch F-16s to Ukraine.
Illya Yevlash, spokesperson for the Ukrainian air force, disclosed this week that Ukrainian pilots are currently undergoing training to operate these advanced aircraft.

Throughout the conflict, Ukraine has relied on a limited number of outdated Soviet-era jets, especially during Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.
As Russian forces continue to advance in the eastern Donbas region and launch fresh attacks near Kharkiv in the northeast, Ukrainian authorities view the introduction of the F-16s as a crucial enhancement to their Air Force capabilities.

The arrival of the F-16 fighter jets marks a significant milestone for Ukraine's defense strategy, providing a much-needed boost in its ability to deter and counter Russian aggression. With ongoing tensions in the region and the persistent threat of further incursions, the modernization of Ukraine's Air Force is seen as essential for maintaining stability and safeguarding national security. The addition of these advanced aircraft underscores the commitment of Ukraine's Western allies to support its sovereignty and territorial integrity amidst ongoing geopolitical challenges.

As Ukraine battled against Russia's extensive invasion in February 2022, its military found itself depending on a modest collection of aging Soviet-era jets. Meanwhile, as Russian forces continue their gradual advance in the eastern Donbas region and launch new offensives near Kharkiv in the northeast, Ukrainian officials perceive the integration of the F-16 as a crucial enhancement for their Air Force.
