A Russian missile strike on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy resulted in the tragic deaths of 10 people, including two children, according to Ukrainian officials. The attack targeted a nine-storey residential building, causing severe damage and leaving the region's administrative center without power.

The incident, which occurred late Sunday evening, also left 55 people injured, among them eight children. "Sunday evening for the city of Sumy became hell, a tragedy that Russia brought to our land," said Volodymyr Artyukh, head of the Sumy military administration, on the administration's Telegram channel. Another missile reportedly hit critical infrastructure, causing a power outage in the city.

Emergency responders have been working at the site, with rescue operations continuing through the night. Psychologists are also on hand, offering support to those impacted by the disaster, as confirmed by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Over 400 people have been evacuated from the affected areas.

Images shared by the emergency services on Telegram show scenes of devastation, with firefighters battling flames around damaged vehicles and rescuers aiding residents trapped in the rubble. One image depicted a heavily damaged multi-storey building with shattered windows and a ruined facade.

The attack on Sumy occurred shortly after a morning of intense Russian strikes on Ukraine's power grid, which Kyiv described as a "massive" offensive involving 120 missiles and 90 drones. This earlier assault resulted in at least seven deaths.

While Moscow has yet to comment on the strike, both Ukraine and Russia continue to deny targeting civilians. Since the onset of the full-scale invasion in early 2022, thousands have lost their lives, the majority being Ukrainian civilians.
