Bhopal: Ahead of the possible announcement of the new liquor policy of the Madhya Pradesh government, senior BJP leader Uma Bharti is staying at a temple in the state capital Bhopal and is demanding to make the liquor policy more strict. After reaching the temple located near a liquor shop at the Ayodhya Nagar Tiraha, Bharti told reporters on Saturday that if the "controlled liquor policy" is implemented, the ruling BJP would repeat its 2003 record win.

The BJP leader announced that she would stay there till January 31, awaiting the announcement of the liquor policy. Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh are to be held in December this year. Uma Bharti is demanding a proper amendment in the Liquor Policy, which the state government issues every year, to include more controls to promote de-addiction. Uma had earlier opposed the liquor shop located near the temple.

The Madhya Pradesh government has not announced any date, but a new liquor policy is usually announced in late January. The former Union minister said that she had expressed her desire to visit various places in Madhya Pradesh in November last, but the tour could not take place due to a lack of arrangements for her staff, including security personnel. Uma said- I have never demanded complete prohibition. I had said that if it is in my control, I will implement complete prohibition. I have full faith in CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. I will wait for the decision on the liquor policy on 31 January. Uma Bharti also said that she does not want the opposition Congress to benefit from her stand. She said, "If the controlled liquor policy, as I told (to the BJP government), is implemented, then BJP will repeat its record victory like in 2003."
