The Ujjain Municipal Corporation chalked out a proposal to transfer the Grand Hotel to the MP State Tourism Development Corporation (TDC) for developing it as a heritage hotel. Meanwhile, ex UMC president Sonu Gehlot said that the Grand Hotel and its campus is the pride of Ujjain through State Time. Even in this era of commercialism, it becomes available in low-rent for marriage and other auspicious activities. It is also very useful because it is in the middle of the city.

It is available at half the rate to the families of the UMC employees. Gehlot lambasted that certain people have been trying to take it for quite some time. An old proposal has already been rejected by the UMC council. Now, a similar proposal has been made and administrator Sharma also accepted it. If this proposal is implemented, a good facility will be taken away, he added.

TDC is either operating a number of hotels or getting it from private people. Handing over the Grand Hotel to the TDC will also be the case of other hotels that supply liquor and non-veg foods, which are been banned so far, he said. Gehlot has urged administrator Anand Sharma to reconsider the matter while taking local public representatives into confidence.
