UNITED STATES:: On Afghanistan, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged for greater collaboration between the UN and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). He told a Security Council meeting on UN-CSTO collaboration on Wednesday that the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is increasing by the day, while terrorism remains a continual threat, not just to the security of Afghanistan and the region, but to the entire globe.
The severe economic contraction, rising unemployment, and escalating humanitarian crises will feed despair and spawn extremism unless decisive action is taken, according to reports, and the threat from illicit drugs and weaponry shipments, as well as criminal and terrorist networks, is growing. "Regional and inter-regional cooperation is critical to our response.
" Regional interaction is also being improved, as is cross-border law enforcement and judicial coordination. "Close coordination between the UN and regional organisations, including the CSTO, will be crucial in assisting in the defusing of these developing threats, minimising spillover, supporting stability, and ultimately saving lives," he said. Guterres also emphasised the importance of UN-CSTO cooperation in the areas of conflict prevention, counter-terrorism, and anti-narcotics.
