SEOUL: The  United Nations Security Council (UNSC) si all ready to l vote on a US-led resolution to impose more sanctions on North Korea in response to its recent ballistic missile tests.

According to source, a related session will be held in New York on Thursday, amid speculation that China and Russia, the Council's veto-wielding members, may vote against toughening sanctions against Pyongyang. The US government has urged the rest of the world to denounce North Korea's latest missile launches, calling them a menace to the area and the entire globe.

On Wednesday, North Korea launched three ballistic missiles, one of which seemed to be an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

North Korea has launched at least three known ICBM tests since the start of the year, making this the 17th such launch this year. In September 2017, North Korea conducted its most recent nuclear test. In 2018, the DPRK decommissioned its main nuclear test site in Punggye-ri to demonstrate its willingness to de-nuclearize.

Seoul officials, on the other hand, claim that the North has finished "all preparations" for a nuclear test. Since late 2019, North Korea has shunned any dialogue with the United States. Since the Joe Biden administration took office in January 2021, it has also rebuffed any US overtures.
