Hyderabad:  Varavara Rao, an accused in the Elgar Parishad case, is presently admitted in Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai. In such a situation, his family members have now filed a petition in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). In his petition, he has requested a direction to the jail authorities and Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai. The directive is to provide him with 'transparent' latest information about Rao's health infected with Coronavirus.

Actually, the petition was filed in the NHRC last Friday. This petition states that Nanavati Astpal has refused to give any information regarding Rao's condition and his treatment, due to which the family had to go to the NHRC. In a conversation with a website, the family of Varavara Rao said, 'Today, we are forced to write this letter to you. Because Nanavati Astpal has refused to give us information about his (Rao) condition and his treatment. Apart from this, he said that when Rao was admitted from Taloja Jail to St. George's Hospital and then to Nanavati Hospital, at that time his family was provided only official information that Rao was found infected with Coronavirus. Provide him with the latest official information about Rao's health every six hours.

The family members of Varavara Rao also said that 'refusal to give information about his health is a direct violation of NHRC's order of 13 July. In this order, the NHRC had specifically ordered the jail authorities to provide all kinds of medical assistance to Rao and provide full information to his family members about it.
