The Foreign Ministry on Thursday said that after the government started the 'Vande Bharat' evacuation campaign on May 7, more than 3.6 lakh Indians have returned to India from abroad. At the same time, Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said that a total of 5,13,047 Indians have lodged their requests for repatriation to India on a compelling basis with Indian missions abroad. He said that out of those who have registered, 3,64,209 have returned till date under this mission.

In his statement, he said that repatriation of neighboring countries is also happening through land borders. A foreign ministry spokesman said that more than 84,000 Indians had returned from Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh through land border immigration checkpoints. Srivastava further said that in the first three phases of the Vande Bharat Mission, about 875 international flights were scheduled for operation from more than 50 countries on five continents. So far, more than 700 of these flights have arrived in India, which repatriates about 150,000 Indians.

Srivastava said that the flights of Webde India Mission (VBM) have been helpful in meeting the immediate needs of stranded Indians from many parts of the world. All the same, we are committed to bringing the rest of our people back to other places, especially in GCC countries, Malaysia, Singapore. To continue our efforts, Phase IV of VBM is being started from July 3, 2020. Srivastava said, "Phase IV will specifically focus on the countries where we still have a large number of Indians who have registered for return. He said that apart from these, the chartered flight operations starting May 26 There has been a steady increase in the last weeks.
